girl in red liefert mit „body and mind“ weiter ab

Nach der furiosen Veröffentlichung ihres ersten Album „if i could make it go quiet“ liefert Marie Ulven aka girl in red nun noch ein Video zu „body and mind“ ab.

I’ve been in the deep end since I realized
There is a difference between body and mind
I’ve been at my lowest for the longest time
Knowing my existence is not one of a kind

Sie selbst sagt dazu: „I was working with the director Thea Hvistendahl and she’s absolutely crazy and really funny. Making this video and giving Body And Mind a new dimension with these visuals is really dope. It feels like it’s been awhile since I’ve seen some witch shit so it was about time!“

Am 30. April erschien mit „if i could make it go quiet“ der erste Langspieler der Norwegerin Marie Ulven – angesichts ihres immensen Erfolgs kaum vorstellbar.

„if i could make it go quiet“ erschien via world in red/AWAL und entstand in kompletter Songwriting-Autonomie von girl in red, die das Album gemeinsam mit Matias Tellez co-produziert hat.

„’if i could make it go quiet’ is an attempt to learn what it’s like to be human; to deal with the scariest parts of myself; to live with the pain of knowing i’m only flesh and bones; to be angry, broken and unforgiving yet still able to wear my heart on my sleeve; i’m shedding light on the darkest parts of my mind and i’m letting everyone in; ‘if i could make it go quiet’ is me simply trying to understand what the fuck is going on.“ Kann man mal so stehen lassen.

“There are things on this album that I haven’t been able to talk about in my songwriting previously,” she says of if i could make it go quiet. ‘Serotonin’ is brutally honest, lyrically, especially about having these intrusive thoughts — thoughts of never going to be okay, and thinking my therapist hates me. I stopped going to my therapist because I felt like I was such a big burden for her that she didn’t like me. I’m pretty sure a lot of people have felt that, whether it’s a friend or a family member or a therapist. I’m addressing a lot of things I haven’t been comfortable talking about, or admitting to myself, or even things to tell my closest friends and family.”

Verrat, Lust, Sehnsucht, Depression – „if i could make it go quiet” hält mit nichts hinterm Berg und besticht durch gnadenlose Ehrlichkeit.

“It’s about you realizing you’re only a person, and the outer world can easily affect your body, even though you don’t feel like it’s affecting your mind,” she explains. “It’s that dissonance between your mind and who you are as a person… Sometimes it’s really hard to grasp that we’re actually just humans, even though we take that shit for granted every day. We walk around, eat our breakfast, eat our dinner, we’re talking to people. ‘Body And Mind’ was an outlet to express that I’ve gotten a deeper understanding of what it is to be human. Seeing what happens to your body but you don’t feel that happening to your body — it’s just a really weird thing.”

“When you [hear] ‘love song,’ I have very bad connotations immediately; I’m like, that’s some sappy shit!”, erklärt sie lachend. “But love is so big, and there are so many sides to love. I feel like I’m exploring a little bit more of the hate side of love with this album. I also feel like I’m exploring a little bit more of being vulnerable and letting someone in. I haven’t talked about that before… [The album] is a big, boiling pot of thoughts and things I haven’t said.”

“if I could make it go quiet” macht es eine einfach sich Marie Ulven hinter dem Steuer des geliehenen Autos ihres Vaters vorzustellen: im tiefsten Nirgendwo der Straße zwischen Oslo und Bergen, wie sie „Rue“ hört und sich mental an die darauf besungenen düsteren Orte zurückversetzt oder die komplizierte Beziehung auf „You Stupid Bitch“ reflektiert.

„if i could make it go quiet“ zementiert Maries Standing als eine der stärksten Stimmen und Persönlichkeiten im

“I just feel like I emptied myself in this album.” sagt Marie Ulven über ihr Debüt – und das spürt man in jedem Akkord & mit jeder schmerzhaft ehrlichen Zeile.
