Nicht mehr lange warten: Nächste Woche Freitag (16. April) erscheint das neue London Grammar-Album „Californian Soil“. Als letzten Vorboten hat das britische Trio nun auch den Albumtrack „America“ veröffentlicht, der finale Song auf „Californian Soil“.
Der neue Song folgt auf die bereits veröffentlichten Titel „Baby It’s You“, „Californian Soil“, „Lose Your Head“ und die Single „How Does It Feel“, in dessen Musikvideo Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, bekannt aus der Netflix-Serie „The Queen’s Gambit“ mitspielt. Der neue Song „America“ dreht sich vor allem ums Loslassen, wie Frontfrau Hannah Reid berichtet:
“America is about my journey of letting go of the past, and learning how to write music again following a difficult time with my health. I use the idea of the American dream to wave goodbye to the things that I didn’t need anymore.”
„Californian Soil“ ist die dritte Platte von London Grammar, die mit ihren ersten beiden Alben die britische Pop-Landschaft im letzten Jahrzehnt maßgeblich beeinflusst haben. Dass dieser Erfolg nicht nur positive Seiten mit sich bringt, hat insbesondere Frontfrau Hannah Reid in den letzten Jahren zu spüren bekommen. Die Sängerin sah sich in der Vergangenheit immer wieder mit Frauenfeindlichkeit in der Musikindustrie konfrontiert, ein Thema, das sie auch bei der Entstehung des neuen Albums maßgeblich beeinflusst hat. Hannah selbst erzählt:
“Misogyny is primitive, which is why it is so hard to change. But it is also fearful. It’s about rejecting the thing in yourself which is vulnerable or feminine. Yet everybody has that thing. This record is about gaining possession of my own life. You imagine success will be amazing. Then you see it from the inside and ask, why am I not controlling this thing? Why am I not allowed to be in control of it? And does that connect, in any way to being a woman? If so, how can I do that differently?”
In Großbritannien haben London Grammar bereits Termine für ihre bisher größte Headline-Tour angekündigt. Die sechs Termine im November waren innerhalb von kürzester Zeit ausverkauft. Zudem wurde die Band nun als Headliner für das All Points East Festival angekündigt, das am 27. August in London stattfinden soll.
