Es ist eine Kombo aus dem Himmel: Das Trio MUNA unterschreibt beim coolsten Label der Welt.
MUNA aus Los Angeles haben bei Saddest Factory Records unterschrieben. Die Band, bestehend aus Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson und Josette Maskin, ist der zweite Act, der bei Phoebe Bridgers‚ Label unterschreibt.
Über den Deal sagen MUNA: „PHOEBE asked us to be in a four person couple with her. We said, „Sadly, we are all taken but we will happily sign to your record label for the small fee of 10 million dollars.“ After much negotiation, she obliged. We look forward to this lifelong partnership and PHOEBE raising our first born children, as was included in the contract. This will be the last time we speak publicly as we will be giving her our voices in a cursed golden locket (with the exception of our bi-monthly contribution to the Podcast Industrial Complex). And maybe some music.“
Phoebe Bridgers antwortete daraufhin: „I thought they were a boy band.”
MUNA veröffentlichten ihr Debüt-Album „About U“ im Jahr 2021 und ernteten viel Lob von der Los Angeles Times, The FADER, SPIN und vielen anderen. Das Album schaffte es auch in eine Reihe von Jahresend-„Best Of“-Listen. darunter NPRs „100 Best Songs of 2021“, die zudem feststellten, dass „the band created a musical safe space and an anthem for otherness, letting its joy speak as loudly as its defiance,” und Billboards „50 Best Albums of 2021: Critics Pick“, die das Album als „fesselnd“ bezeichneten. Das Album brachte ihnen auch den begehrten Support-Slot auf Harry Styles‚ erster Solo-Tour ein. Ihr zweites Album, „Saves The World“ (September 2019), erhielt ebenfalls begeisterte Kritiken, der Rolling Stone gab dem Album 4 Sterne und lobte ihre „mastery of pop songcraft„.
Man darf also gespannt sein, wie Geniestreich Nummer 3 wird. MUNA sind das zweite Signing bei Saddest Factory Records, dem neu gegründeten Imprint von Phoebe Bridgers in Zusammenarbeit mit Dead Oceans. Das Debüt-Album des Labels, „Super Monster“ von CLAUD, wurde im Februar unter internationalem Beifall veröffentlicht.
