Der isländische Produzent, Songwriter und Fufanu-Frontmann Kaktus Einarsson veröffentlicht am 21. Mai sein langersehntes Solo-Debüt „Kick The Ladder“ via One Little Independent Records und haut mit „45 RPM“ einen weiteren Appetizer samt Video raus.
Wie so viele Isländer blickt auch Kaktus trotz seines doch eher jungen Alters von 28 Jahren auf eine beachtliche musikalische Karriere zurück. Aufgewachsen im idyllischen Reykjavik, war er mit gerade einmal 1 0 Jahren bereits Teil des experimentellen ElektroActs Ghostigital. Seine Band Fufanu feierte internationale Erfolge, eröffnete u.a. für Radiohead, Red Hot Chilli Peppers und Blur. Deren Mastermind Damon Albarn zählt wohl zu ihren größten Fans und ließ es Sich nicht nehmen, eigenhändig die Fufanu-Single „Ballerina In The Rain“ zu remixen und sie als Support einzuladen.
Mit „Kick The Ladder“ eröffnet Kaktus Einarsson nun ein weiteres musikalisches Kapitel und wagt Sich an den Geniestreich, seine Erfahrungen in den Bereichen Contemporary, Klassik und Pop auf Basis seines Händchens für Produktion und Songwriting zusammenzubringen. Entstanden ist dabei ein tiefgreifendes, melodisches Album mit einem expansiven, innovativen Sound.
Die neue Single „45 RPM“ entstand aus einer sehr spezifischen Idee, erläutert Kaktus, als „the only song on the album I wrote especially with the idea of me and pianist Thibault Gomez performing as a duo. When I was sketching up the demo to send to Thibault I recorded it with a simple drum machine guide, and after recording it I erased the beat. It was of course done in a hurry so part of the drum machine, late in the demo, didn’t disappear and to my surprise, I liked it very much and couldn’t resist trying out adding more production… resulting with the song as it is now. „
Hinter dem Video zu Single stecken das langjährige Kollaborateursduo SnorriBros, die eine visuelle Brücke zur vorherigen Single „Hypnotized“ geschlagen haben, so Kaktus: „When it came to creating a visual for the song we wanted to work with the warm dreamy-ness and the solitude of the song. And when we were plotting out all of the videos we saw an interesting way to connect the video for ‚Hypnotized‘ and ’45 RPM’… and that is what we did. At the end of ‚Hypnotized‘ we leave the concrete city world and enter a fantasy world where everything is pretty and calm. In ’45 RPM‘ we stay in that utopia and watch the fantasy evolve, where it gains colour (literally). Is it a dream? Or is it a real place? Either way, it’s never good to stay too long disconnected from the real world is it?“
Die Single, wie das gesamte Album, wurde auf Island geschrieben und haben mit Hilfe des experimentellen französischen Pianisten Thibault Gomez soundtechnische Reife entwickelt, bevor es dann in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Schweizer Elektro-Komponisten Kurt Uenala in New York an die Fertigstellung ging.
